| Rhonda Y. Johnson Inghram Elementary, San Bernardino Unified School District, K-5. Q: Why are you interested in the study of the Underground Railroad? "I am interested in the study of the Underground Railroad because I feel it is important to have knowledge of the history of your ancestors. It is important to understand your roots and the contributions made by your ancestors. The study of African-American history creates an awareness of historical events that have shaped the attitudes and perceptions of different ethnic groups. These past and present attitudes and perceptions can affect our ability to value and appreciate different ethnic groups."
