"Most of my life I thought I had no history. Although it didn't hurt my self-esteem, there was something missing. When I found out the routes of the Underground Railroad could be traced I jumped at the chance to gain knowledge about this history that hasn't reached textbooks yet. I became the keeper of the culture by writing and leaving a legacy to my children and to other adults, as far as my writings could reach. I am most pleased and excited that this part of American History is being uncovered, that the ancestor's spirits can rest because we have not forgotten the price they paid for the freedom we have."
