Q: Why are you interested in the study of the Underground Railroad?

"The study of the Underground Railroad provides me the opportunity to fully comprehend an essential component of the African-American historical evolution within this country. My participation in the Long Road to Freedom project will provide me direct experience not readily available from books, periodicals and/or scholars. My experiences associated with this study will also enhance my conceptual knowledge regarding the Underground Railroad. This will enable me to become a conduit of information concerning the Underground Railroad, which I can impart to my students and colleagues. Concluding, I consider my opportunity to participate in the Underground Railroad project to be truly inspirational. I am an avid collector of African-American related books, art and artifacts. I hope to use this experience to assist my students to recognize that as they matriculate into our everchanging technological society, the importance our society's past success as well as failures, in the development of their beliefs, values and attitudes."
