Bethel Baptist Church After dinner at a restaurant on the Ohio side of the river, we crossed the bridge into Maysville, Kentucky. We were headed to the historic Bethel Baptist Church for a presentation by Jerry Gore, where the renowned Elisha Green preached. |

| While the group began the experience in jovial spirits, quickly we realized that we were in for more than just a "lecture." Jerry led us in singing to begin with, and he and Peggy Overly led us through a history of slavery and ancestors via their music. The suffering of the ancestors and their ability to survive and transcend the oppression of slavery is the heirloom of these people for the modern era. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| It was a truly emotional experience, especially after a recreation of the middle passage in dramatic fashion, leaving many in the audience in tears, and none un-moved. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
