Riverside, CA – What’s old…is new again. The people of Riverside are going crazy for pushups as a way to get in shape…and give something back to our wounded warriors. It’s called Pushups for Charity™, and it’s causing quite a stir. Headed by Fatimat Yusuf-Olukoju, 1996 Atlanta Olympic Silver Medalist in track and field and the owner of Village Coach Fitness, Inc., a Boot Camp in Riverside - Pushups for Charity is a fun way to get fit and make a difference by supporting the Boot Campaign, an non-profit organization whose mission is to honor men and women of the U.S. Armed Services who have come back home and could use a hand.
The Pushups for Charity™ Challenge takes place on Saturday, May 19th 2012, at 9:00 am, at the Grove Community Church-19900 Grove Community Drive, Riverside, CA. The Challenge pits Village Coach Fitness’ team of ‘Regular Joe’s and Jane’s’ against the teams of our Riverside Police and Fire Department. All Riverside residents are invited to participate in the Challenge by joining the Regular Joe’s and Jane’s team. Lieutenant Flores of the Riverside Police Department said, “My department is ready and we will be there to support our brothers and sisters”.

“The community is really rising to the challenge – there is a lot of interest in Pushups for Charity. I think that says a lot about our community’s interest in supporting wounded warriors, and is a reflection of how much people appreciate the importance of being healthy,” says Olukoju.
She continues: “Our local officials are pushing for charity as well. Mayor Loveridge of Riverside and City Councilman (Ward 4), Paul Davis are showing their support and will be there Pushing with us.”
Pushups are one of the foundational exercises for overall body strength and lean muscle development. Lean muscle increases metabolic activity so the body burns more calories. Additionally, pushups are a simple exercise anyone can do almost anywhere. “Pushups are a gateway exercise,” says Olukoju, “people feel results quickly, sometimes within days, and that inspires them to do even more exercise.”
