On Thursday, December 1, 2011 at 7:00 a.m. The Group will honor Rose M. Oliver at its annual Celebrating Community Awards Breakfast. She will be celebrated for her leadership and contributions as a founder of the organization and many years of service to community groups and the City of Riverside. The breakfast will be held at Canyon Crest Country Club located at 975 Country Club Drive, Riverside. Donation is twenty-five dollars ($25).

In December of 1999 Rose M. Oliver invited a group of Riverside leaders to a holiday social at the home of Rose Mayes. In a style that Rose Oliver was known for, the theme quickly shifted to politics. She emphasized the need for a forum where issues affecting African-Americans could be addressed on a short and long term basis. That is when The Group was formed. Twelve years later the organization continues to be the only grassroots public policy group that addresses issues affecting African-Americans through a diverse membership.
