13th Annual Opera In The Park To Showcase Talented Young Opera Singers

The 13th annual Opera in the Parkwill once again showcase the Southwest's most talented young opera singers in what has become one of THE "must do" cultural festivals in the Coachella Valley. Each year, the Palm Springs Opera Guild gathers gifted up and coming performers for this day-long concert of arias. Opera in the Park will be held this Sunday, March 27 from Noon-5:00pm with the festival grounds opening at 10:00am.

Opera in the Park is a FREE public event held at Sunrise Park in the City of Palm Springs located on Sunrise Way between Ramon Road and Baristo Road. Free shuttles will be provided from designated parking lots, but public transportation and car pooling is strongly encouraged as more than 5,000 people attend the event each year.

Art ist ic Director Michael Cressey and Music Director Mona Lands have assembled a magnificent opera presentation for the eight talented singers who will be a part of this year's stellar line-up: Jacquelynne Fontaine, soprano and first prize winner of the Palm Springs Opera Gui ld's vocal competition; Melissa Batalles, soprano; Joshua Guerrero, tenor; Karen Vuong, soprano; Ben Lowe, Baritone; Lauren Edwards, mezzo-soprano; Adam Paul Lau-bass and Alexey Sayapin-tenor. For complete biographies of Valery Ryvkin, Conductor; Mona Lands, Music Director and the Opera in the Park performers, programs will be available at Opera in the Park.

Returning for his second year as conductor for Opera in the Park, Valery Ryvkin is one of the leading opera conductors in the United States. As Artistic Director of Opera Santa Barbara and Greensboro Opera Companies he lead many productions over the last few seasons, including Carmen, Rigoletto, Madama Butterfly, La Boheme, Pagliacci, Faust, Don Giovanni and Tosca.

On the guest conducting front, Maestro Ryvkin successfully led the 2007 production of Boris Godunov for San Diego Opera which starred internationally renowned bass, Ferruccio Furlanetto. In 2008 Maestro Ryvkin returned to San Diego Opera for their production of AIDA.

This festive day in the park will consist of food and wine sales (by the bottle or glass) by Jensen's Finest Foods along with a variety of other restaurant and food booths.
