Riverside County's registrar of voters has been fired because of last week's slow release of election results.

County Executive Officer Bill Luna on Tuesday ordered the dismissal registrar Barbara Dunmore after a heated Board of Supervisors meeting over her failure to quickly release election results.

Dunmore, the county's top election official since 2004, had already been under fire since June's slow vote counting. There were delays again after last week's election.

Dunmore had assured officials that the results from about 200,000 vote-by-mail ballots processed before Election Day would be posted on the registrar's website 15 minutes after the polls closed. But voters were still in the registrar's lobby casting ballots until 8:35 p.m. and the results weren't posted until about 9 p.m.
