In August 2010, the 65 unit OASIS SENIOR VILLA will open it doors to seniors and the disabled that are 62 years of age and older. This is “affordable” housing which means that only seniors of moderate incomes are eligible. Usually, these are persons living on social security or a pension. However, the great part of this new building is that qualifying seniors will only have to pay 30% of their income for rent. The rest of the cost to operate the building is paid by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) This brand new, SMOKE FREE, building was made possible through the City of Hemet’s contribution of monies along with the Department of Housing and Urban Development’s $9.3 million grant award.
Oasis Senior Villa has 64 one bedroom units for rent. There are 3 community rooms – a television room, an arts and crafts room one with a large television set and laundry rooms.
All units have balconies. The apartments include an energy saving refrigerator, an electric stove, air conditioning and, of course, heating. Parking is available. Oasis Senior Villa is in a gated community that is monitored by security cameras distributed amongst the different building areas.
There will be a lot of activities in the building for the residents to participate in, if they would like to. These include such things as bingo, card games, potluck suppers, television parties with popcorn and other events the residents wish to create.
The building is developed by WASET, INC. a nonprofit sponsor of affordable senior housing in Southern California. WASET, INC. was created in 1991 to serve low income families and the elderly.
Its previous project in Hemet is the 75 unit Sahara Senior Villa which is next door to the new building.
Both OASIS SENIOR VILLA and SAHARA SENIOR VILLA are located on Oakland between Palm and Hamilton Streets.
