Art Auction in Riverside

Internationally acclaimed artist Charles Bibbs will host his First Annual Holiday Charity Art Auction at the Riverside Arts Museum in Downtown Riverside on Saturday, December 17th from 4:30-10pm.

The live auction will be conducted by acclaimed poet and author Conney Williams featuring the works of local and reowned artists Charles Bibbs, Poncho Brown, Synthia Saint James, and many more. A concert featuring platinum R&B recording artist Oscar Snow will occur at the conclusion of the auction.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the Healthy Heritage Wellness Center, The Riverside Arts Museum, Art 2000 Visual Arts Association, and Riverside African American Historical Society. For more information, please call (951) 682-8185.

I.E. is Home to New Gamma Phi Delta Sorority, Inc. Chapter

November 11, 2011 marked a significant day for Gamma Phi Delta Sorority, Inc. They welcomed Iota Epsilon as a new chapter into their vastly growing sisterhood.

“I am extremely excited about the opportunity to share our programs and expand the sorority’s reach to the Southern California communities that we live in,” stated Iota Epsilon Basileus, Cynthia Smith.

“My goal for our sisterhood is that we strive to be true ‘Ambassadors for a Better Tomorrow’ by helping to make our communities the best that they can be.”

Iota Epsilon signifies a new partnership with the San Bernardino, Riverside, and San Diego counties that will allow for new programs, service initiatives, and community involvement to be implemented.

“Gamma Phi Delta Sorority, Inc. as a whole and particularly the Far Western Region look forward to the input of expertise from Iota Epsilon members to our Global Connections Project, our mentoring of youth, and services to seniors.

I personally expect these members to eventually become the leaders of Gamma Phi Delta Sorority, Inc. to further promote our policies and projects,” expressed Far Western Regional Director Phyllis Junor.

The charter ceremony was conducted by Phyllis Junor, Far Western Regional Director and attended by members of the Delta Chi (Los Angeles) chapter of Gamma Phi Delta Sorority, Inc. A private dinner reception was held for the members of the new chapter.

The charter members of Iota Epsilon Chapter include: Camille Chambers, Reneka Gibbs, Mia Moore, Deanna Powell, Tia Shelton, Doreen Simmons, Cynthia Smith, and Jasmine Walker.

Gamma Phi Delta Sorority, Inc. provides an opportunity for women to work and to serve on local, regional, and national levels of the organization. The sorority contributes annually to charitable organizations that are involved in serving humanity and whose objectives reflect its mission.

35th annual celebration of writers and writing returns to UCR Feb. 7-10, 2012

UC Riverside will celebrate a host of prize-winning poets and novelists – among them distinguished UCR creative writing faculty and alumni – when the 35th annual Writers Week Conference begins on Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2012.

Participating writers will read selections from their works, answer audience questions and sign books after their presentations. Awardwinning poet Diane Wakoski will close the four-day event as the keynote reader on Friday, Feb. 10, at 7:30 p.m.

All events will be held on the UC Riverside campus in Interdisciplinary Building Room 1128 and will begin at 1 p.m. each day. All sessions are free and open to the public. Parking costs $6 per day.
