RIVERSIDE
Mediation Class To Be Offered

Community Action Partnership of Riverside County’s Dispute Resolution Center (DRC) will be holding a class on Basic Mediation on June 17, 24 and 25, 2011.

Completion of the 25-hour class provides participants the necessary certification to mediate cases for the Dispute Resolution Center. New mediators are needed as the case-load in the courts continues to grow.

This introductory workshop is for people from all professional backgrounds. Anyone who needs to intervene in conflicts will benefit from this workshop. These include managers, supervisors, attorneys, social workers, administrators, clergy, health care workers, counselors, teachers and others. Also invited to register are individuals interested in learning the basic process and skills for becoming a mediator. Human resource professionals seeking more collaborative approaches to resolving internal organizational disputes will also benefit, as will professionals and community leaders needing to enhance their "informal" mediation skills for resolving conflicts among individuals, groups, or organizations.

The classes will be held at Community Action Partnership of Riverside County, 2038 Iowa Avenue, Suite B-102 in Riverside. The times are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. for each class. Mediator training is offered for free to DRC volunteer community mediators, who make a 120-hour commitment of volunteer service within one year of completing the training.

Individuals not wishing to volunteer can pay a fee of $225.00 per person.

MCLE credit is available for attorneys and paralegals. To register or for more information, contact the Dispute Resolution Center at (951) 955-4900.

2011 Senior Health and Resource Fair

The mayor and City Council invite Fontana Seniors to The Annual Senior Health and Resource Fair on Wednesday, June 29 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Fontana Community Senior Center, located at 16710 Ceres Avenue.

This year’s theme is “BE STRONG: Mind, Body, and Soul” and features a variety of health and wellness related information, screenings, and access to essential community resources in one convenient location.

“This event is an excellent opportunity for seniors and their family members to get useful advice to help them start or continue to lead healthy lifestyles,” says Community Services Coordinator, Tiffany Starks. “We hope to bring knowledge and awareness that will encourage seniors to ask more questions and hopefully lead to earlier detections of health problems/issues.”

The 2011 Senior Health and Resource Fair is free to the public and provides health screenings such as bone density, blood pressure, glucose, and body fat. Information on legal services, health care plans, medical equipment, personal training and so much more is also available.

For more information, call (909) 854–5151 or visit the Senior Center’s website at seniors.fontana.org.
