On August 17th at approximately 8:04 PM CHP dispatch received a report of a vehicle into a power pole on Hunter Street north of Mission Blvd.

(Rubidoux). CHP Officers arrived on scene and observed that a 1998 Ford Expedition driven by Sherri L. Couch (female, 50, Riverside) was lodge on top of a power transformer box. Officers closed Hunter Street from Mission Blvd. to Roberts Way in both directions for approximately six hour until Southern California Edison could repair the damaged box and the vehicle could be removed. Riverside County Roads and Riverside County Sheriff’s Department volunteers assisted with traffic control at the location. Upon investigation it was determined that Ms. Couch was driving the Ford while intoxicated and with a suspended license; she was not injured in the collision. Ms. Couch was placed under arrest and booked at Robert Presley Detention Center for DUI with additional pending charges.

Local Youth Organization Gets Things Cooking

In a change of pace from their traditional fundraising format, Axis Foundation, Inc., will be teaming up with the Riverside East Chapter of TEAM Referral Network, Riverside Christian School, and Axis Foundations Culinary Director and Celebrated Chef Amarleono Burnett on August 26th, 2010, to raise scholarship funds for 40 children to obtain professional training from the AXIS Foundation, Inc. Intro to Culinary and Hospitality Management Training Program.

The Culinary and Hospitality Management Training Program is supported by the American Culinary Federation – Southern California Inland Empire Chef & Cooks Association, Riverside Community College and The Arts Institute of California – Inland Empire, as well as the many other Riverside area restaurants.

Axis Foundation, Inc. is a non-profit organization dedicated to unlocking the potential of at-risk young people of Riverside County, California in order to build and sustain healthy communities.

The focus of the event is two-fold:

• A Business Mixer networking event that will allow local owners to participate and promote their business; and

• A Fundraiser - to raise the $50,000 required to put 40 students through the AXIS Foundation, Inc. Intro to Culinary and Hospitality Management Training Program in hopes that the skills acquired will help positively impact these young peoples’ futures.

The networking mixer and fundraiser will be held on August 26th, 2010 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Riverside Christian School (3532 Monroe, Riverside, CA 29504), whose students will be providing car washes to attendees for a small donation to Axis Foundation.

The Riverside East Chapter of the TEAM Referral Network is hosting the event and is coordinating sponsor booths and admission, both of whose fees will be donated in full to Axis Foundation.

Chef Amarleono Burnett, who has cooked for politicians and celebrities and currently owns and operates The Gourmet Guy, a well-established catering company, will be working with the potential scholarship recipients to create appetizers & hors d’oeuvres for the attendees, showcasing their culinary skills.
