Hundreds of supporters peacefully walked and gathered at events on Saturday and Sunday in Florida to commemorate the 2-year anniversary of Trayvon Martin’s death.

Then-17-year-old Martin was killed in a gated Sanford Community in 2012 by neighborhood watchman George Zimmerman, who was found not guilty of second-degree murder last year.

Guests at the events included the family of Oscar Grant, who killed in Oakland on New Year’s Day by a BART police officer and the family of Emmitt Till, the 14-year-old boy gruesomely murdered in Mississippi in 1955. Academy-award winning actor Jamie Foxx also attended and spoke to supporters.

The second annual gala held Sunday was hosted by the Trayvon Martin Foundation at the Signature Grand in Davie.

The commemorative events occurred following news that a controversial boxing match between Zimmerman and Rapper DMX was being organized. Plans for the match have since been cancelled.
