Remembering LaVell Byrd

Former Riverside resident , LaVell Williams Byrd was remembered in a homegoing service in Oakland, California.

Byrd was born September 21, 1934 in Riverside, CA, the first child born to Trivel “Bubba” Williams and Bernice McCoy.

Byrd grew up in Riverside with four younger siblings, her brothers McCoy “Coy” Williams and Trivel Williams, III, and her sisters Lora Davis (Curtis) and Carol Bullock (Jude) all who have preceded her. Byrd attended school in Riverside, graduating from Poly High School in 1952. She attended Riverside City College earning certification as a Licensed Vocational Nurse.

In 1966, she relocated to Oakland, CA and continued her education at Cal State Universi ty Hayward, where she earned a BS degree in Speech Pathology and a Master’s Degree in Speech Pathology from San Francisco State University. She worked as a language and speech specialist in the Oakland and Richmond Unified School Districts until her retirement.

Byrd leaves to cherish her memory four children, Darryl, Rodney, Gaye and Bryan, seven grandchildren, five great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and extended family.
