At about 6:40 pm, a single Black male subject opened fire with a handgun toward the front of a residence in the 1300 blk of N. ‘D’ Street. Two children and a young pregnant woman who were in front of that residence were hit. One of those children, 3-year-old Nylah Franco-Torrez, was shot in the head and died of her wound. A second 3-year-old girl was also shot in the head and is in critical but stable condition. The young pregnant woman was shot in the neck and jaw and is also in critical but stable condition. She is approximately 5 months pregnant and the unborn child is, so far, in good condition.

Through interviews with numerous witnesses, SB police have developed a possible motive and suspect information in this crime. Some time before the shooting occurred, a subject from the victim residence was walking in the neighborhood nearby when he witnessed a black male adult hitting a female adult. He intervened, giving the female time to escape. That Black male adult is the suspect who later fired on this residence.

The female has not yet come forward to report that assault. There were also at least two other Black male adults who saw that assault occurring. We want to appeal to any of those people to come forward and identify this suspect. We also want to reach out to the community, to anyone who saw any of this or knows who these individuals are. Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Mike Vasilis at (909)384-5636 or the Homicide Hotline at (909)384-5656.
