Life Changing Ministries (LCM), whose mission is to reach out to people from every nationality and background, certainly demonstrated their commitment by hosting their second annual “Operation Back- 2-School” giveaway on Sunday, July 31 at the church facility in San Bernardino.

Every year during its Operation Back-2-School event, LCM serves neighboring communities by supplying free backpacks, shoes and school supplies. This year, the program offered free dental screenings provided by Loma Linda University, Free Whopping Cough Booster shots provided by the San Bernardino County Department of Public Health, backpacks, shoes, socks, school supplies, games, food, and entertainment.

The church served an additional 100 families this year in comparison to last year, making it 300 families served this year.

Dr. Reginald L. Woods, senior pastor and founder of LCM said the goal for this year’s event was to go beyond last year’s goal, which was to tangibly bless and help people in the community, but to get more people involved with that expression. In other words, get more people involved on the giving side.

“We put more energy this year on getting people involved on the giving side. Meaning, they need to be able to be that extension of God. As a result of that, we’ve had a lot of companies contact us because they wanted to get involved [with the event]. For example, the San Bernardino County [Department of Public Health] giving free immunizations for kids returning to school, free bike helmets [from Safe Kids of Loma Linda]. That was not something we sought; these organizations sought us, which is a good thing because this is two-fold. First of all, helping the people in the community and second of all, giving people the opportunity to give, that’s also important. There’s a blessing on both sides,” said Dr. Woods.

Various community participants had positive feedback regarding the event. Mother and daughter Tina and Mellissa from San Bernardino County said, “We think it’s a good event, and it was very well organized and we think it’s great that they’re helping the community and the kids with these shoes. We think it’s really nice.” Mildred from San Bernardino County said, “I think it’s a great event. It’s wonderful for the community and the people. I think it’s beautiful.”

The sponsors of this year’s event were the members of Life Changing Ministries, Loma Linda University School of Dentistry, Supervisor Neil Derry, San Bernardino County (3rd District), Samaritan’s Feet, Kids Foundation, Molina Healthcare, Target, Remax, Ralphs, San Bernardino County Department of Public Health, Safe Kids of Loma Linda, Morales Landscaping, It’s Your Day Event Planning, and Southern California Edison.
