The City of San Bernardino is pleased to announce its first ever Citizen’s Academy, set to begin on May 18, 2011.
The Academy is designed to increase the understanding between citizens and the City’s organizational structure through education, where citizens become acquainted with city governments’ role in improving, maintaining and protecting the citizens’ investment in their community.
The Academy is an interactive educational program that informs citizens of the City of San Bernardino about how their local government is organized, and how services are funded and delivered. It is a place to learn about citizen involvement through an integrated approach to economic vitality, social equity and a healthy environment.
The Citizens’ Academy sessions include lectures, discussions and in-person visits to various departments.
Locations include City of San Bernardino Council Chambers, Fire Stations, Police Station, San Bernardino Water Company, Public Works Off-site Facility and other City facilities.
“We hope the Citizen’s Academy will improve citizens' understanding of the workings of effective government, and encourage their involvement in the community to help sustain quality of life for present and future generations in San Bernardino,” said City Manager Charles McNeely.
The Citizens’ Academy will be held two times per year, and was created and is administered by the City of San Bernardino Office of the City Manager. Classes will run for 10 weeks each Wednesday night from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Class schedules will be released as schedules are determined.
