Josie Gonzales, chair for the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors, has been named 2011 Woman of the Year, selected for special recognition in Sacramento by Assemblymember Wilmer Amina Carter (D-Rialto).

The Legislative Women's Caucus sponsors the annual Woman of the Year ceremony to recognize outstanding California women selected by their respective assemblymembers.

Gonzales is the first Hispanic woman to serve as chairman of the board of the largest county in the contiguous United States. She is also the first Latina to ever serve on the board.

"I am honored to bestow this award to Supervisor Gonzales," Assemblymember Carter said.

"She is a role model, encouraging the next generation of leaders to serve our communities."

Assembly Member Wilmer Amina Carter represents District 62, which includes Rialto, Colton, Muscoy, Bloomington and portions of Fontana and San Bernardino.
