Pearl “Penny” Holcomb passed away at home at the age of 87. Penny was the widow of our former Mayor W. R. “Bob” Holcomb who passed away less than four months ago.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 30, 2011 at First Presbyterian Church of San Bernardino, 1900 North D. St. San Bernardino.
Penny was born in Ontario, California, attended local schools there. She went on to Chaffey Junior College and then to UC Berkeley where she graduated with a BA degree in biology.
She taught in Lodi for several years before moving to San Bernardino with her husband Bob.
She spent most of her life in San Bernardino and was very active in the community. She was a member of Assistance League and Les Confreres, CSUSB Library Board, San Bernardino Symphony Association, ChildHelp, Girl Scouts, Republican Women, Sturges Foundation, the International Council for Friendship and Goodwill, the Heritage House, and the San Bernardino Historical Society.
Mrs. Holcomb was predeceased by her son, Jay, and her husband, Bob, and is survived by three children, William Robert of Los Angeles, Robert Grant of Walnut Creek, daughter, Terri Lee Holcomb-Halstead of San Bernardino; and three granddaughters.
