On February 8, 2011, Master Sergeant, First Sergeant Vernon Bragg Jr. (retired) received his last duty station transfer and entered into the arms of the Lord.
Vern Jr., Dad, Uncle Vernon, Bubba, Sharp Cat, and Bragg was born December 16, 1932 in Guthrie, Oklahoma to Vernon Sr. and Asie Lee Bragg. The first of six children, Vernon and his family moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado, where he attended the local schools and after graduation, he moved to Los Angeles, where he joined the Air Force. Due to his excellent people and organizational skills, he quickly advanced in rank and position. He was particularly proud of receiving top security clearance which enabled him to be assigned to an intelligence unit.
After proudly serving for 23 years, he tired in 1973, at which time he worked for the San Bernardino county for a short time. Soon thereafter, he established two board and care facilities and eventually the Bragg Board & Care Inc., encompassed seven facilities and provided services for over 150 clients from 1973 to 1989.
Vernon and his wife, Odessa, have always been active in the community and devoted members of Allen Chapel A.M.E Church. Vernon was involved with so many programs and organizations, that it is impossible to list all of them here. He was not only a member but also served in many leadership positions.
However, to mention a few, the Rialto Kiwanis club, Rialto Toastmasters, Inland Behavior Services, Air force Sergeants Association, Debate Society and Black Culture Foundation.
Vernon is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Odessa; four daughters: Geneva, Treva ( Bill), Virginia (Tony), Odessa (Jaime); seven grandchildren: Natasha (Henry), Javier, Vernon, Sophia, Sylvia, Alex and Emma; five great-grandchildren: Kayshe, DaRyan, Trinity, Henry III and Amelyia; one aunt: Mertis Jean; five sisters: Beatrice, Wanda, Verna, Jackie and Monica He was preceded in death by his mother, his father, two sisters, Francis And Odessa and brother John.
