This year San Bernardino County Supervisor Josie Gonzales expects record number attendance at the 2010 National Night Out events she’s planning for the unincorporated communities of Bloomington and Muscoy.

Four years ago the Supervisor hosted the first National Night Out celebration in the county’s 5th District. Since then the family style events have drawn neighbors out of their homes during the evening hours to enjoy the lively music, free food, and a variety of giveaways and fun activities.

Tuesday, August 3, 2010 marks the 27th Annual National Night Out celebrated across the country to develop partnerships between community and local enforcement, heighten crime and drug awareness, as well as encourage camaraderie within our communities.

“National Night Out is a wonderful opportunity that allows us to reach out to our communities on multiple levels,” said Supervisor Gonzales. “It enables neighbors to spend time together, to get to know one another better, strengthening their sense of community.”

“It also enables the residents to meet and learn more about the men and women who protect and serve them, our county departments, sheriff’s officers and firefighters, as well as receive the latest information on available programs and services,” she added.

A variety of vendors will be on hand at the two 5th District events, including representatives from county Sheriff, Fire, Code Enforcement , Sol id Waste, Museum, Public Health, the Bloomington Library, Department of Aging and Adult Services, as well as Transitional Assistance Department and Children and Family Services. Arrowhead Regional Medical Center will provide free health screenings through its mobile clinic van in Muscoy and Breathmobile in Bloomington.

Other participating agencies and organizations include Kids N’ Care, the South Coast Air Quality Management District, First 5 San Bernardino, San Bernardino City Readers, and representatives from the offices of Senator Gloria Negrete-McLeod and Assembly Member Wilmer Amina Carter.
