She was a graduate of Tuskegee University, and she earned two master’s degrees. She carried on another Washington tradition, the Washington Candy Company.
Her candy making talents were inherited from her mother, who established the company in 1922 in her home in Tuskegee. She had many other creative gifts.
Among them are designing and making clothes, cooking fancy and elaborate meals, and creating invitations an decorations for various special events. She had three children, one who preceded her in death.
