First 5 Riverside announced that the first of five comprehensive school-readiness centers (CSRC) opens on April 11, 2003 in Perris, California. The Rob Reiner Children and Families Development Center, located in the southeastern part of Riverside County, houses seven health and social agencies and will serve as a model for subsequent CSRCs.

This CSRC is designed to be a “one-stop shop” for children 0-5 and their families residing in the City of Perris. The facility offers a variety of services to encourage and support early childhood development and increase school-readiness.

The services the Center will offer include literacy programs for children and adults; a regional occupation program designed to train students in child care and dental assistant careers; health education and services for parents and teen mothers; and a pre-school academy designed for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers.

The Center is a collaborative effort where the 7 key agencies will maintain offices and programs to serve the children and families that come to the Center.

“We are anticipating the Center to be a huge success in the Perris Elementary School District. The participation of the Perris Elementary School District has been instrumental in this program from concept through design and implementation,” said Carolyn Wylie, Executive Director of First 5 Riverside.

“The support and guidance provided by the Perris Elementary School District leadership and their Board of Trustees has facilitated the swift execution of this pilot program, the first of its kind in Riverside County.” Currently, PESD has 4,800 K-6 students enrolled in 7 elementary school sites.

“We are also grateful to have received the support and commitment of other agency partners that will implement the programs designed to meet the needs of a growing community,” Wylie added.

The other collaborative partners include Riverside County Community Health Agency, Riverside County Office of Education, Riverside County Department of Mental Health, and the Riverside County Department of Public Social Services.

A ribbon cutting ceremony will kick off the official grand opening of the Rob Reiner Children and Families Development Center on April 11, 2003. The program will be held at the Center, 2221 South “A” Street in Perris, from 10:00 a.m. to 12 noon with the ribbon cutting ceremony at 10:45 a.m.
