On Friday, November 1, 2002, the Boys & Girls Club of San Bernardino (BGCSB) Board of Directors will be hosting the 2002 Annual Founders and Awards Banquet at the Hilton Hotel in San Bernardino.

The theme for this year’s event is “Preserving Our Legacy, Building Tomorrow Together.” The banquet starts at 5:30pm with a silent auction conducted by Gallery of Dreams. Music for the event will be provided by the multi-talented band Zamar.
The founders being honored are Jack H. Brown, Chairman of the Board, President and Chief Executive Officer Stater Bros. Market; the Honorable Patrick J. Morris, San Bernardino County Superior Court; Bruce Varner, partner in the law firm – Varner, Saleson and Brandt; and the late Art Townsend, founder of The Precinct Reporter.
“I’m really excited about this banquet,” stated BGCSB Chief Professional Officer Clifford Hackney. “This is an opportunity to come together and appreciate the dream that our founders started 35 years ago. Their dream was to make a difference on the Westside of San Bernardino. They realized by placing a Boys & Girls Club here that they could make a difference in this community by giving young people a safe place to learn and grow. Because of their vision we have expanded upon their dream to not only serve the kids of this community but the adults as well.”
The BGCSB not only offers recreation, club programs, companionship and services for kids, but also offers G.E.D. job preparation classes, childcare capacity training and English as a Second Language (ESL) classes for adults.
“The club has evolved to meet the needs of this community,” said Al Twine, President of the BGCSB Board of Directors. “We’re looking to expand even more with our theatre arts program and proposed technology center.
“The banquet not only gives us a chance to acknowledge our founders,” stated Hackney, “but it serves as a means to publicly celebrate the achievements of our board of directors. We have such a diverse group and they work extremely hard to continue to make the Boys & Girls Club of San Bernardino The Positive Place For Kids.”
