By far, travel is o­ne the greatest forms of education. It's enlightening, it's hands-on, and the actual experience itself leaves vivid impressions in our memory bank. Sometimes visiting a neighboring city or State might be just what we need to get back o­n pace and refreshed from our busy schedules. For others, the requirement might be a bit higher. More diverse exposure is necessary. Here, I'm talking about going abroad and visiting a different country. Before I go any further, let me introduce myself and tell you about WEB International--Notes from Abroad.

My name is Wayne Erwin Brown and I am the author and publisher of BLACK SAMURAI: Work, Travel, Culture, Religion, Struggle, & Perspective of a Black American Man. It is wonderful to be able to travel and see the world. I encourage you to do the same. You don't have to be wealthy to do so, however, you do have to take steps forward to make it to the destination of your choice! Thus far, I have been to 13 countries and counting. Theses countries are: USA, Mexico, Canada, Japan, Thailand, South Korea, Malaysia, France, Spain, China (including Hong Kong and Macao), Taiwan, Philippines, and Singapore. Through my experience and journey, BLACK SAMURAI exposes how Work, Travel, Culture, Religion, Struggle, & Perspective plays an active part in my life-as it plays an active part in so many of our lives just as well.

The abbreviation for Wayne Erwin Brown is WEB. These initial are used in naming my company WEB International Publishing. Currently I am living and working in Tokyo, Japan. In addition to being an author and book publisher, I am a teacher within Japan's public schools education system. Being a native of San Diego, CA, my own educational abroad journey with travel started with a single step, where I had no idea that the single step I took would lead to a global leap for me.

My columns will illustrate abroad perspectives that are nonetheless relevant concerns to all readers. As a starter, know that a single step of travel can lead to worthy education and opportunity in our global community.

I had no idea where an international opportunity was going to take me. However, belief in my God, my family, and in myself has made this an opportunity of a lifetime. Sometimes you have to step outside of your comfort zone. Be optimistic. The challenge is more internal than it is external. I hope that through my experiences illustrated you see and understand the power of self-potential. Even greater, by taking necessary steps to achieve advancement, you come closer to reaching your goals. This decision making power is up to you.
