Last spring the city of Fontana was full of excitement when a preview party for the NAACP Image Awards was held at the citys civic center.
Ellen Turner, Rialto/Fontana Branch President welcomed the many stars who performed and greeted the crowd. Enthusiasm was high as Miss Fifi Locke, a staple at the awards, ushered people in and out of the rain, stopping for press photo opportunities and interviews.
That night Vic Bulluck, Executive Director of the Hollywood Bureau and Image Awards was unable to attend but he made it up and returned to the area to give support to the local branch and to return to his roots near Rialto.
Bulluck spoke of the importance of supporting the stars. Buy their music and see their movies, he told the crowd that gathered at Fontana Nissan.
Kitra Williams, Leading Lady in T.D. Jakes stage production, Woman Thou Art Loosed, sang and Rev. Dennis Brown recited his Martin Luther King, Jr. I Have A Dream speech and Total You Dance Troupe performed all to the delight of an impressive audience including Assemblywoman Gloria Negrete McLeod.
One of the highlights of the program was the return of the Branchs original charter. For many years Bill Collier had it and through his different moves had misplaced it. He was happy to make the presentation.
