Riverside City Mayor, Ronald O. Loveridge, recently received the prestigious Tom Bradley Leadership award from the National Association of Regional Councils (NARC). The national award, which recognizes leadership excellence in advocating regional concepts, approaches, and programs at any and all levels of government, was presented a dinner ceremony on June 28, 2005 at NARC’s annual conference held in Monterey, CA.

The Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG) nominated Mayor Loveridge for this prestigious award.  “Through his tenure as a local elected official, Mayor Loveridge has demonstrated outstanding leadership and commitment to improving the future of Southern California’s transportation network and maintaining the region’s preferred quality of life in the face of daunting challenges presented by ongoing population growth,” commented Mark Pisano, Executive Director of SCAG.

Mayor Loveridge has served on the SCAG Regional Council since 1995.  Under his leadership, SCAG developed the State of the Region Report, an annual report card which provides a concise and realistic depiction of the region in terms of seven key policy areas:  transportation, employment, income, housing, air quality, safety and education.

Loveridge is currently the Chair of the SCAG Benchmarks Task Force, which has guided the preparation for the report since its inception in 1998. The Task Force consists of local elected officials and regional issue experts throughout Southern California.

Commenting on the Leadership Award, Mayor Loveridge said, “I am truly honored by this recognition.  Elected leaders, such as myself, are increasingly recognizing that the issues examined in the State of the Region Report extend beyond city and county limits, making it imperative that we work together as regions to improve our collective quality of life.”
