The Inland Empire chapter of OWL (Older Womens League -- the voice of midlife and older women) sponsored a kickoff reception for its pioneer Its On the Horizon workshops.
Priority Pharmacy and The American Heart Association joined forces with the grassroots organization to unveil the HIV/AIDS prevention and awareness workshops for sexually active women 50 and older.
The Mayors Patio was abuzz with physicians, representatives, and community activist eager to learn more about the disease from the keynote speaker Dr. Steven Larson, president of Riverside County Medical Association.
Dr. Larson held the audience of over 50 people captive as he described the progression of the disease from its beginning with its current disproportionate impact on sexually active women over the age of 40.
The California Endowment has provided funds for Inland Empire OWL, a chapter of the only national grassroots organization to focus exclusively on issues of social, economic, health, and political concerns to woman as they age, to train peer coordinators to provide education and awareness on the transmission and prevention of STDs and HIV/AIDS.
The organization will provide a limited number of free interactive workshops with role play demonstrations and informal safe discussions for social club organizations, churches, and retirement communities, and coffee clutch gatherings of women.
