Healthy Cities Youth Project

“National Make A Difference Day” will begin with an opening ceremony on Saturday, October 26, 2002 at 9:00 a.m., when youth, along with soldiers from the 349th General Hospital Army Reserve Unit located in Los Angeles, community members and parents will come together to celebrate this special day of community service. Immediately after the opening ceremony, volunteers will work on one of two projects chosen for the day. The first is a large food drive. On October 19, volunteers will place empty donation bags at 25,000 houses in the La Sierra and Arlanza area of Riverside. On October 26, volunteers will pick up the filled donation bags at the 25,000 houses. Beginning October 7, food barrels were placed in over 40 locations in Riverside including many area grocery stores. The food drive will help Second Harvest Food Bank where donations have fallen to a dangerous low. The second project is a beautification effort on the East side of the city in an area that is littered and neglected.
