EECDC Strives for Purpose More Noble than Itself

The EECDC (Ecclesia Economic Community Development Collaboration) hosted an enlightening breakfast last Wednesday, May 14, 2008.  With influential business and community leaders in attendance, the organization was able to present a greater understanding of their goals and vision for the Date Street community of Del Rosa.

The breakfast lead by Frank  Quevedo, Vice-President of Southern California Edison and Pastor Joshua Beckley, Ecclesia Christian Fellowship highlighted the activities and vision of the EECDC.

This vision encompasses the creation of "jobs, housing, and businesses through the gifts and talents of God's people" in the Del Rosa area of San Bernardino.

The initiatives that were presented included the complete expansion of a youth community center in San Bernardino.  The EECDC has already mentored 54 young adults in a boxing program  "Faith in God Heals Troubled Souls."  Phase two will expand to  basketball courts and martial arts programs.

Pastor Joshua Beckley stated: "the church is not in the neighborhood, but of the neighborhood, which is why a community center that serves the needs of the surrounding area is essential to the overall growth."

Statistics show that Ecclesia serves the 2nd highest crime area in the city of San Bernardino where 80-90% are below poverty level.  With this in mind, the EECDC developed a survey, searching for the economic answers to build a more safe environment for the surrounding community.
