David Ford, a Business Solutions account executive for Southern California Edison (SCE) is being recognized by the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) ENERGY STAR‚ program for developing and implementing an innovative way to help small businesses and nonprofit organizations save energy and money.

“Since March 2001, David has been working with the economic and business development corporations of Ontario, Riverside, Tulare, and the Coachella Valley to train groups of ‘energy auditors’ to conduct energy surveys,” said Dennis Munoz, SCE Business Solutions supervisor. “His work has resulted in helping participating businesses cut their electric bills by as much as 15%,”
Through the survey program, approximately 24 million kilowatt-hours representing more than $600,000 in energy savings has been identified as both potential, and implemented energy efficiency savings for the four cities. The Community Survey program identifies 14 potential energy upgrades, related dollar and kWh savings for each, referrals to qualified local contractors and two, post-survey follow-up calls to measure and verify completion of recommended work.
“We train the surveyors, provide brochures, educational materials and technical support,” Ford said. “The auditors, all local area volunteers, also learn about SCE’s Express Efficiency Rebate program and how businesses can earn cash rebates for installing qualified energy-efficient equipment. The cities administer the Community Survey program and SCE follows up with participating business.”
