6th Annual African Village Weekend Has Something for Everyone

The African Village Weekend: Cultural & Performing Arts, Inc. and the Inland Valley News proudly presents the 6th Annual African Village Weekend Cultural Fair and Music Festival at Memorial Park in Upland, California, July 30th - 31st. 2005.

The African Village Weekend promotes the legacy and tradition of African and African-American culture, customs and commerce celebrating through events that promote cultural awareness, fun and excitement in a bustling country fair atmosphere reminiscent of an African Village.

Confirmed musical artist for the year’s spectacular event include balladeer Howard Hewett, grand vocalist Phil Perry, smooth jazz artist Poncho Sanchez, phenomenal musical talent S.P., violinist extraordinaire Karen Briggs, The Polyester Players and Rickey Rouse.

Those who attend the African Village Weekend can expect many wonderful shows and events. Included in the African Village Weekend will be music, entertainment, community awareness seminars, Health Pavilion,  Children’s Village, cultural activities, storytelling, as well as great food.

For those who simply want to shop, the African Village Weekend offers opportunities to purchase goods and services from the many vendors who will be in attendance. The African Village Weekend will display the wide array of sights, sounds and smells that are representative of Black/African culture and life.

Some of the 2005 sponsors include Countrywide Home Loans, Foothill Transit, Harvey Mudd College, Inland Valley News, Sparrow Mortgage, Kaiser Permanente, Maric College, Candlelight Pavilion Dinner Theater, Casa Colina Rehabilitation Center, The Home Depot, Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center, G.M. Psychological Services, Southern California Edison, Burrtec Waste Industries, Inc., California Polytechnic University of Pomona, Western University of Health Sciences and others with a long-standing commitment to the community.

The entrance fees are: Adults: $15 per day/$25 two-day pass

Seniors (age 60+): $10 per day /Students (age 13-18 years): $10 per day

Children 12 and under: Free

Seating is general admission (lawn seating).

Sorry, NO umbrellas, coolers, picnic baskets, backpacks, glass containers, no smoking, alcoholic beverages, audio recorders, video cameras, barbecues, or dogs are permitted.
