Redlands Shakespeare Festival Offers School Assembly Programs

Now in its second season, the Redlands Shakespeare Festival is offering age-appropriate school assembly programs for students at third grade to high school levels. The school programs feature Festival Artistic Director Steven Sabel and several company actors presenting scenes from plays in the upcoming season. The actors also discuss specific characters and plot as well as basic theatrical principles. Question-and-answer sessions with students follow presentations.

Washington is o­ne of the most controversial and complex educational figures in American history.  Catapulted into the national spotlight after his 1895 "cast down your bucket..." address at the Atlanta Exposition, the founder of Alabama's Tuskegee Institute emphasized economic self-reliance and valued hardwork, thrift, and seriousness of purpose.

The great American educator Booker T. Washington began an extremely busy day in Riverside o­n Sunday March 23, 1914, at the new First Congregation Church.  He gave three major presentations that day and at each he drew tremendous crowds.
