BIBLE MEDITATION:

"There is a way that seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to
death. Proverbs 14:12 (NIV)

DEVOTIONAL THOUGHT:

Have you heard the song "I did it my way?" In the late 1960's a number of
Artists began singing a song first published by Paul Anka but made famous by
Frank Sinatra. It was also a part of the regular repertoire of Sammy Davis,
Jr. and Nina Simone. The Song rejected the opinions of others and even the
direction of God. It promoted the idea of doing our way, regardless.
Some of the lyrics give a clue:

Yes, there were times, I'm sure you knew
When I bit off more than I could chew.
But through it all, when there was doubt,
I ate it up and spit it out.
I faced it all and I stood tall;
And did it my way.

I've loved, I've laughed and cried.
I've had my fill; my share of losing.
And now, as tears subside,
I find it all so amusing.

To think I did all that;
And may I say - not in a shy way,
"No, oh no not me,
I did it my way".

For what is a man, what has he got?
If not himself, then he has naught.
To say the things he truly feels;
And not the words of one who kneels.
The record shows I took the blows -
And did it my way!

Frank Sinatra sold millions of copies of that record. Years after his death
a new generation still sings that song and believes that it is important to
do it "My way."

Have you ever stopped to wonder whether "My Way was God's way?" Many who are
doing things their own way and are satisfied.
Sometimes "My way" and God's Way" are two different ways.

As Christians, we desire to do it God's way or no way at all. Most of us
have tried the Burger King approach to life; that is, "Have it your way." We
have since learned that God's way is the best way.
