The Los Angeles Sparks introduced Jennifer Gillom as the teams eight head coach.
Gillom and Michelle Timms were the Phoenix Mercury’s first two players selected in the 1996 original WNBA draft.
Gillom played seven seasons in WNBA, six of those for the Mercury where she led them to the playoffs three times 1997, 1998 and 2000. In 1998, the Mercury reached the WNBA Championships losing to the Houston Comets.
Gillom played her final WNBA season with the Sparks. Gillom started her coaching career at Xavier College Preparatory, a private school in Phoenix. Jennifer coached Xavier for five years and compiled a 130-25 record.
Gillom was recently inducted into the WNBA Hall of Fame and was also named as an assistant coach for the 2010 USA Basketball Women’s World Championship.
Gillom replaces Michael Cooper who resigned at the end of the season to become head coach of the USC Women’s Basketball program.
