They call it the ‘Grand Daddy of them all’, the Rose Bowl. The game that attracts millions internationally - it just happens to be the place where the BCS National Championship game will be this year. There will be over 90,000 in attendance, there will be a worldwide television audience, there will be two undefeated teams – there will be one team with two Heisman Trophy winners.

We look at all these things and Ahmard Hall can bring us back to reality. Hall is a Texas running back that has been through quite a bit before he dawned the Rose Bowl last year and will return this year. A Marine Sergeant, who has already served four years of duty, will be in the backfield with Heisman runner up Vince Young. As a Marine he has done missions in Kosovo and Afghanistan.

“We joined right after high school. We thought that was best for both of us,” said Hall. Both of us includes his wife Joana. He quickly climbed to the rank of Sergeant and is currently on inactive reserve.

He could be called from the Texas practice field today and he would go. His wife is in the same situation being an inactive Marine. “If they call me I’m ready to go back,” said the running back. “You have to be prepared when you’re a Marine.”

“We thought that it would be good for us,” said wife Joana. “It was a great experience and we both grew up quickly in the Corp. When we got out our maturity level was really high. It helped us both grow.”

Hall’s nickname is GTG (“Go to Guy”) from his command in the Marines. He and his wife Joana have a son named Mason.

Hall is active within the University of Texas community. He has spearheaded food drives and helped other local organizations in the Austin area.

The Rose Bowl will be rocking soon, but Ahmard Hall and his family will be happy to just be there. As their journey has been more of a monumental task in the Corp.
