The Los Angeles Clippers will begin a campaign with high hopes as they look to improve on their 37-45 record of last season. Of course Elton Brand will lead the way. The 68 bruising forward from Duke will be in his seventh season. Brand averaged 20 points and 9.5 rebounds per game in last years campaign.
Newcomers Sam Cassell and Cuttino Mobley will help get the Clippers in the playoffs for the first time in ten years. Cassell, a twelve year veteran who averaged 13 ppg and 4 apg, came from Minnesota and will look to provide strong leadership as he already possesses two Championship rings from the Houston Rockets.
Mobley averaging 13 ppg and 4 assists last year is another crafty veteran entering his eighth year. Theyre good leaders, said Head coach Mike Dunleavy. They are respected around the league.
Chris Kaman will start as center for the Clippers. The rangy seven footer is expected to improve on his 10 ppg and 6.7 rpg. He begins the season with a sore thumb but will play anyway. My thumb is messed up, said Kaman. But, Im definitely going to be out there.
The Clippers finished the preseason with a 6-2 record and will open up at home this weekend with Atlanta Friday and take on Minnesota Timberwolves Saturday at Staples. Both games are at 7:30.
