San Bernardino Last years contest ended on a late fourth quarter kick off return as Arroyo Valley stole one from the Spartans. San Gorgonio dominated this years game until mid-way through the third quarter when somebody woke up Michael Coleman and the Arroyo Valley Hawks.

Michael Coleman, of Arroyo Valley, has been sought, scouted and signed by the mighty USC Trojans, in recent days. Dominating the San Andreas League with his passing arm and athletisism, Coleman has become a marked man by opponents. His profile, at 6’3”, 220 pounds and extremely quick, makes him a formidable threat to advance the ball down field at any time. Coleman and the Hawks had been executing poorly most of the night. San Gorgonio’s defense had frustrated and contained the high powered Hawk offense and led well into the third quarter 24-6.

If you had trouble finding the stadium and took your time parking and finally arrived at the 8:24 mark of the third quarter, you would be just in time to see why Pete Carrol and The USC Trojans covet their new found phenom, Michael Coleman. Field marshal Coleman then led his Hawks to 21 straight points as the defenseless Spartans were left with their hands on their hips while starring at the gridiron grass. On one of the late Arroyo drives, Coleman had runs of 34,18, 12 and 10 yards. He then threw a 25 yard touchdown pass to Justin Marvel. San Gorgonio had a chance to tie late, but missed a long field goal attempt to end it. San Gorgonio’s Bobby Newton rushed for 116 yards on 16 carries. Coleman rushed for 110 yards and passed for 151. In the end, San Gorgonio had no match and no answer for him. USC has suggested that they see a great linebacker in Michael Coleman’s future. Only time will tell.

The Spartan’s fall to 1-2 in the San Andreas League and are a respectable 5-3 overall. Arroyo Valley, also 5-3, still remains undefeated in the San Andreas League standings at 3-0. Next week San Gorgonio travels to take on Carter and Arroyo Valley is at home against San Bernardino.
