Redlands 22 REV 14
Redlands - Nearly 7,000 fans packed the University of Redlands Stadium on Friday night. A great deal of partisan crowd noise and player emotion added up to a surprisingly flat game.
Redlands East Valley (REV) was expected to showcase a running and passing offense that had beaten Redlands last year.
Quarterback Nate Johns is now at Oregon State and REV could have used his arm and running ability on this night.
Sophomore quarterback Ronnie Fouch was 9 of 24 for 112 yards as he was rushed into throwing off balance most of the night. Senior standout running back Nathan Acre, suffering the effects of a sore shoulder, managed to gain 127 yards on 26 carries for REV.
The two rivals slugged it out to an 8-7 Redlands lead at halftime. The Bulldogs scored just before the half on a nifty run by Ashton Howard and a two point conversion by Antwane Almendarez.
Howard had 148 yard on 22 carries and Almendarez added 71 yards on 16 carries.
Redlands came out strong in the second half and carried the momentum for the remainder of the game. REV quarterback Ronnie Fouch is probably the best talent at his position in the Citrus Belt League, however, Redlands sacked him three times on key drives to take the claws from the Wildcats. The Redlands running attack chewed up big chunks of yardage and the clock, which left REV too little time to rally. Both teams remain alive for CIF playoff runs.
