Los Angeles – Chino native Diana Taurasi is the best women’s college basketball player in the country. Taurasi led the number 1 ranked UConn Huskies into the Sports Arena with a 72 game winning streak which includes two national championships.

The USC, Women of Troy have not been a national presence since the mid 80’s and the days of Riverside Poly’s Cheryl Miller.

When you invite the best team in the nation to be your home season opener, you must have high expectations for the season. "We’re not doing the gutty little Trojan thing here", said USC coach Chris Gobrecht. "We were a little too content to be in the game with them".

The Huskies’ (6-0) 72-game winning streak seemed to be at risk coming down the stretch. The Trojans were tied 62-62 with 3:51 left in the game. The Huskies’ Barbara Turner tied the score with a free throw and the Trojans never led again.

Murietta’s Racheal Woodard had the final shot attempt, but her attempted game tying three pointer was short as the buzzer sounded.

The crowd of 6,172 was the largest home attendance for the Trojans since 1985.
Ebony Hoffman scored 15 points and freshman Eshaya had 13 for the Trojans.

Diana Taurasi had 26 points, 15 in the second half to preserve the Huskies winning streak. “It looks like she bailed us out again,” said coach Gino Auriemma
