Riverside - The 2003 season finale with rival Canyon Springs came down to a single challenge for the North’s Girls Basketball team.

Lose the game and finish second in the Ivy league two consecutive years or win and share a piece of the the title.

It was a no brainer for Senior Guard Tarryn Montgomery, “we didn’t want to lose to them again. We didn’t want to be in second place”. Prior to the 2002 season Canyon Springs had never beaten the Huskies.

Behind the strong play of Guard Jennifer Risper and Forward Brandi Fitzgerald the Cougars swept the season series and won the first meeting this year.

After losing three consecutive games to the Cougars the Lady Husky’s were determined to hold on to a share of the Title. “They played harder (than the first game) .

They are an older more experienced team, we’re still a young team and they knew what to do when it counted,” said Canyon’s Brandi Fitzgerald.

North held on to win 53-52 and retain a share of the Ivy League title. The Lady Huskies have rolled up CIF playoff wins over La Mirada and Rubidoux.
