Eagles use Manning's feet and Palmer’s legs to overpower Servite for first round playoff win.

Eisenhower 20
Servite 17

The first four non-league games included three playoff teams. Ike opened the season with Division V’s top rated team, Corona Centennial. Then came Division V Champion J.W. North. First year head coach Glen Tompkins obviously had a plan that included teaching his young squad how to take it on the chin. The Eagles got their first win in mid October, winning their final non-league game against Norco. They haven’t lost since. The Eagles used that momentum the following week to surprise defending Citrus League champion Redlands. After defeating Redlands, the Eagle’s swept through the rest of the league finishing undefeated in league play. Anaheim Servite entered the game with a 7-3 record and having been rated seventh in the CIF polls at one point during the season. Although their poll rating had slipped slightly they were a solid squad led by several big name players including receiver Matthew Slater, son of Rams hall of famer, Jackie Slater.
Eisenhower trailed 17-10 entering the fourth quarter with Servite seeming in control. At that point, Eisenhower unleashed running back Anthony Manning. The Eagles mounted a 56-yard drive ending in with a15-yard scoring scamper by Manning to even the score at 17.
Tied at 17-17, the two teams traded several possessions before Ike’s defense stiffened forcing Servite to punt the ball back. Quarterback Dimel Browne and Runningback Anthony Manning took over from there driving the ball deep into Friars territory with a little more than three minutes to play. The drive stalled on the 9-yard line and Coach Thompkins called on his kicker Garrett Palmer to decide the outcome. Palmer booted a 26-yard field goal to give Ike a 20-17 win. “I didn’t think about anything,” said Palmer “ I knew my snap would be good and I knew my hold would be good, so all I had to do was kick it”. Dimel Browne had 25 carries for 152 yards. Anthony Manning had 16 carries for 143 yards and was unstoppable in the fourth quarter. Eisenhower advances to the second round against Long Beach Poly on Friday night at Veterans Stadium in Long Beach.
