Three Record Breaking Performances

Oakland - The Raiders took the field to do battle with the mighty Titans from Tennessee.

Having met recently on August 15th in a preseason contest won by the Titans, obviously, the Titans came to town expecting to see a similar version of the team they faced a month ago. The Titans were not informed that this was not the same Raiders team. More importantly, there was no warning that they were about to step directly into the path of three of the NFL's greatest players on their way to Canton. Tim Brown, Rod Woodson and Jerry Rice showed up and decided to make the Titans’ day miserable while adding a few more statistical milestones to their hall of fame careers.
Tim Brown, Jerry Rice and Rod Woodson represent 49 years of NFL experience. All three will certainly be first ballot entries into the Hall of Fame as soon as they are eligible. They have defied father time and continue to be as good and as productive as their younger contemporaries. On Sunday all three added to their legends with record breaking performances.
Jerry Rice had 144 yards receiving and another 7 rushing giving him 21,281 yards and propelling him past Walter Payton (21,264) as the all time yardage leader from scrimmage.
Rod Woodson had 3 interceptions returning one 82 yards for a touch down. Woodson's performance against the Titans made him the NFL's career leader in interception-return yardage with 1339 yard.
Tim Brown had 6 catches for 90 yards, the last one a 41-yard scamper to the end zone. That catch moved Tim to third place on the NFL's career Reception list.
This Raider team is often described by the experts as an older team. That characterization could be misleading, considering the unique blend of quality veterans, all time greats playing at high levels and talented young player. This bus to Canton may take a brief detour through San Diego.
