Youth Explosion 2011 at Good News Hope & Help in Riverside

Good News Hope & Help, Inc. held the Youth Explosion 2011 in a different format this year. Several scholarship fundraising events were held during June 3rd and June 4th. The activities began with a praise service with the Youth Explosion Choir, True Vine Church Choir, and the Good News Community Baptist Church Praise Team. A Zumba class, a read-a-thon, and a skate-a-thon were also held on Friday evening. Saturday began with a basketball clinic, a 3 on 3-basketball tournament, a visit to the Juneteenth Celebration at Stratton Center, and culminated with a lap-a-thon at Adams Motorsports Park in Rubidoux.

Drivers included ‘Bumping Granny” Margaret Jones, James Gill, Torri Demery, Jayden Turner, Johnny Hillary II, Ishmal Bartley, Jarred Bartley, and LaSon Cook. The lap-a-thon was exciting with spectators cheering for the drivers.

Funds generated from these events go towards the scholarships given by Good News Hope & Help, Inc. 501 (c) (3) as well as other events. Six scholarships were given last year.

Future events include an upcoming Technology Class featuring entry data computer skills, Parenting Classes, Youth Empowerment Conference, and tutoring. Men of Achievement Recognition Men of Achievement Celebration along with Father's Day will take place on Sunday, June 19, 2011 at the 11:30 AM Service at Good News Community Baptist Church in Riverside.

The men who will be recognized are Elder Levonzo Gray, II, Elder Johnny Hillary, II, Pastor Ralph Rivers, Coach Damien Smith, Father John Street, and Mr. A. Leon Tillman.

The church is located at 178 Iowa Avenue, Riverside, CA 93507. Overseer Levonzo Gray, Sr. is the Pastor.
