The Board of Supervisors of Riverside County have just voted to again designate the month of December across the county as a "December to Remember" in honor of the mission of mercy of The Unforgettables Foundation based in the cities of Riverside and Redlands.

This recognition has become a tradition in the reality that families who have experieinced the death of a child will often find the holiday and Christmas season as a time to reflect and remember the little life that was cut short. TUF will close the month and year with 2 simultaneous events on New Years Eve called the Lights for Little Lives Memorial Walk--the 11th annual walk in Loma Linda and the 3rd desert version in Palm Desert each at 3:30 pm. A release of white doves will begin each processional--a great phot op for local press.

The Unforgettables, recently named 1 of 90 unique and invaluable charities for all of North America through the People Magazine and Major League Baseball program "All Stars Among Us" out of about 10,000 nominations, has helped over 1 financially strapped family a day throughout the year in Inland SoCal when a child has died.

www.theunforgettables.com This past Tuesday, the Board of Supervisors of San Bernardino joined their Riverside counterparts in signing a similar proclamation for the entire county at the weekly session. Since the service area of TUF started with these 2 counties, this annual public awareness action has been given great importance by both government leadership teams as a sign of partnership respect.

Tim Evans, Founder of The Unforgettables comments that " having the friendship and financial support of the Supe's of both counties is a major help to our little mission of mercy. We do so very much for so many with so little in capacity-- 1 paid staffer---that this spotlight on our efforts says to many who don't know much about us that we are a very legitimate member of the community safety net for the grieving." The Unforgettables responds to cases referred from all area hospitals, clinics, schools, county social service agencies, the courts, fire and police, mortuaries and places of worship. The Lights for Little Lives walks are symbolic and not meant as fund-raiser events, rather awareness builders for the reality that TUF has successfully addressed a prviously unmet community need. The candle lighting and naming ceremonies follow a short processional to local church's--- Campus Hill Church in Loma Linda and Sacred Heart Church in Palm Desert. The Inland Empire and Desert Chapters are collaborating to coordinate.

The "Lights" walk is free and family friendly. The IE event is lead by current board chair Susan Loew, ED of Riverside County DPSS along recently retired Director of the San Bernardino County Medical Society Linda Stratton and Jill Eaton of Visiting Nurses. The Desert Chapter event has been organized by chair Linda Long of Lamar Outdoor, Fergus O'Flynn of Weifel's Mortuary, Jenifer Daniels of Vitas Hospice and retired clergy Pastor Chuck Mitchell. The Unforgettables is a 501(c)(3) non-profit which takes no state or federal monies and is dependant upon the grass-roots giving.
