With a word for pastors, choir directors, and music lovers of all persuasions, Dr. James Abbington’s visit to the University of California, Riverside was a true blessing.

An Associate Professor of Church Music and Worship at the Candler School of Theology, Emory University in Atlanta, the event drew a wide cross section of the local faith and academic community. Engaging and highly informative, Abbington’s presentation covered historic hymnists, the spirituals, gospel, and insights for church worship leaders.

A collaborative effort between the Black Voice News, the Gospel Music History Project (GMHP) and UCR’s Department of Ethnic Studies and Office of African  Student Programs, the event was the first in a series of upcoming lectures facilitated by the GMHP.
