The groundbreaking launch of 'Sweating in the Spirit' combines the gospel and fitness in a way that’s never been done before - inspiring the fit and not-so-fit to get in shape to the sound of original praise songs.

It’s an unlikely combination in the Christian world, but not in the world of nationally-renowned wellness expert Donna Richardson, an NBC Weekend Today Show expert for six years, fitness contributor for CNN, author and star of more than 25 award-winning fitness videos, and wife of Black America’s most powerful voice in syndicated radio Tom Joyner.

It is a healthy combination of praise movement and music that helps people have fun while working out, which is a top goal for the woman who says her aim is to help people be healthy. Donna teamed with her mother, fitness ministry leader LaVerne Richardson, to create the 'Sweating in the Spirit' program to help others form their own wellness ministries. She is inspiring people to live healthy and take back their health and honor their temples.

Information about ‘Sweating in the Spirit’ is available online at www.donnarichardson.com.

“I wanted to create something fun, spiritual and unique - a spiritual wellness and fitness program that moves your mind, body and spirit and challenges the Christian community to embody Romans 12:1 - 'ye present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service’” says Richardson, whose own video projects along with those she’s starred in for Nike, ESPN and Platinum Buns of Steel, have sold millions of copies.

‘Sweating in the Spirit’ are not just exercise videos. It is an energetic, yet spiritually-uplifting program that will move your mind, body, and spirit with an energizing workout and words of inspiration to keep your temple strong and healthy. The program consist of videos, DVD’s, CD’s, ‘Sweating in the Spirit’ wellness ministries, motivational speaking forums with health screenings, healthy eating and lifestyle tips, ‘Sweating in the Spirit’ on-line clubs, radio segment, an upcoming gospel workout television show on The Word Network, and soon to debut ‘Sweating in the Spirit’ active wear.

Richardson asked producer Morris “Butch” Stewart to create original, soul-stirring dance music that would encourage people to move and keep their temple healthy and strong. The songs intertwine scripture-based lyrics with music so good the CD will be available as a stand-alone album. Stewart, best known for his commercial music for entities such as the Oprah Winfrey Show and the Tom Joyner Morning Show, created a slate of nine songs for the project.

“This is an opportunity to encourage faith, fun and fellowship” says beloved (as Donna refers to him), Tom Joyner. “Spiritual music makes people feel good. When people feel good and feel the rhythm, they want to get up and move. It’s a great combination.”
This is Richardson’s most ambitious program yet.

She is executive producer of the video, CD, and TV show, and the inspiration behind the project, which not only combines a unique musical flavor and fun workouts, but also features “everyday” people on the set.
“One of the most discouraging things to people who need to be in better health is that the fitness industry tends to only feature people who look ‘perfect,’” she says. “I want to celebrate a variety of everyday people - people who come in different sizes, ages and shapes - all of God's children. We all can’t have Janet Jackson’s abs, but we can be healthy from the inside out.”

Donna Richardson is one of the nation’s leading wellness experts. Her mission is to help people be healthy. Donna is the host of ‘Sweating in the Spirit Gospel Workout’ debuting on The Word Network in May 2003, as well as the host of the ‘Sweating in the Spirit’ radio segment. She is author of “Let’s Get Real” and has starred in more than 25 fitness videos, and on ESPN’s “Fitness Pros” and ESPN2’s “Crunch Fitness.” She has been a recurring fitness expert for NBC’s Weekend Today and CNN. A spokesperson for the American Heart Association and Dasani bottled water, Ms. Richardson is the wellness expert to over ten million listeners on the nationally-syndicated “Tom Joyner Morning Show.” ‘Sweating in the Spirit’ is a service mark of Donna Richardson, L.L.C.
