Africans and African Americans came together to express their wide spread affection and appreciation for and to Dr. Inonge Mbikusita Lewanika, Ambassador to the United States from the Republic of Zambia. During her assignment to the U.S., Dr. Lewanika has frequently visited and developed strong bonds with church and community members in the Inland Empire.
Several peoplesince, have traveled to the Republic of Zambia, and developed a similarly deep relationship with 'family' there.
The government of Zambia has re-assigned Dr. Lewanika to the Ambassadorship of the governments of Belgium, Luxemborg and The Netherlands. In her response the expressions of warmth and personal regard from pastors: Josh Beckley, Samuel Moonzwe; Ernest Nicholas, and Ray Turner, newspaper editors:
Cheryl Brown; Wallace Allen and Brian Townsend; and City Councilman Rikke Van Johnson. Ambassador Lewanika shared similar warmth, inviting the community to visit her in Europe, and to visit the nation and people of Zambia.
Paraphrasing Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr's question: "'Where do we go from here?" Pastor Turner responded, "To Zambia!"
Having been there and meeting many pastors and people there he plans to return in September 2010 accompanied by many other African American pastors to hold a Gospel Conference to which pastors from throughout Zambia are invited with their expenses paid. Temple MBC will help raise the funds and is accepting contributions for this undertaking.
