“Those you allow to remain will become…thorns in your sides.”
(Numbers 33:55 NIV)

Determining Who Belongs in Your Life

“Earthquakes result from two tectonic plates on a fault line shifting against one another, then lurching in opposite directions.

And that’s what happens when you bond with the wrong people. It’s why God instructed the Israelites concerning the hostile nations in the Promised Land: “Those you allow to remain will become…thorns in your sides.”

When a relationship is not working, when your efforts to rehabilitate it have failed, acknowledge it. Sometimes you just have to swallow your pride and admit that instead of lifting them up, they’re dragging you down. Releasing somebody doesn’t mean they’ll never improve, it just means God is better suited to the job. Be careful around those who are always trying to make you feel guilty for not “being there.” Only God can always be there! There’s a difference between helping somebody and carrying them. Your help may actually be a hindrance.

Why should they even try, if you’re always there to do it for them? Your need to be needed could be getting in the way of their need to grow.

Step back and let them walk on their own. Not everybody will be happy when you do that, but they’re not supposed to be. Jesus said, “Woe to you when all men speak well of you” (Luke 6:26 NKJV). Don’t allow the fear of criticism to overwhelm your common sense. People don’t take confrontations well, but this is a matter of survival. Every relationship is for a reason, and a season. So here is the Word for today …Discern those who belonged in your past, from those who belong in your life now.”

Hallelujah Anyhow…”No matter what, I WILL praise God” states Pastor Charlyn M. Singleton, First Lady of Loveland Church and President of God’s Woman Conferences (GWC).

For over 29 years, women and teenagers from around the world have met for a week in the desert to seek God and to hear His voice. As new generations and technologies have paved the way to higher levels of communications and multimedia processes.

God’s Woman Conferences is right on track with additional resources to not only reach women from around the world; but will provide hands on applications to all that attend.

Not only will attendees receive soul searching and moving messages from such profound speakers as Sarah Morgan, Yvonne Capehart, Beatrice Gardiner and Marie Brewington, attendees will be surrounded by more personal training sessions that will inform them about issues that make up the complete person: Health, Business, Spritual Empowerment, Finance And Education.

In addition to the forums and the speaker sessions, GWC will have other activities such as “Private Moments” (a session in the evening by the pool for attendees staying at the host hotel to just talk and network and ask questions), “AFTER GLOW” (a Friday night event where attendees wear jeans and learn line dancing) and a “Business/Vendor Area” (for vendors to display products, services and information) to name a few! Orchestrating all the new activities is event Director Lenell Rousell whom has been co-producing the God's Woman Conference side by side with Pastor Singleton for over 20 years.

“We are a 3-part being: spiritual, body and mind and I want GWC to produce an experience that celebrates each part,” states Pastor Charlyn Singleton, Chair of GWC. ..And because spiritual covering is important, All First Ladies Attend Conference For Free (rooms are not included)! This allows a Pastor’s Wife to be ministered to, relax, receive and more importantly to share with her congregation when she returns home!” states Singleton.

Today, the desert triumphantly awaits the celebration of GWC’S attendees at the exquisite JW Marriott Desert Springs Resort Spa in Palm Desert July 28th-July 31st.

Simultaneously, GWC celebrates the God’s “Young” Woman Conferences where youth 13 and over experience an atmosphere to have fun, learn about themselves, hear other teens and their issues, but most importantly meet and greet the Lord! Young ladies will also experience additional forums on Health, Finance And Education.

“If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him.”
(James 1:5 *NIV)

When you are in need of an answer to one of life's problems, and cannot find the answer, always turn to God's Word. “For the Lord gives wisdom, and from His mouth come knowledge and understanding.”

“Then you will understand what is right and just and fair every good path.” “For wisdom will enter your heart, and knowledge will be pleasant to your soul.”

Discretion will protect you, and understanding will guard you.”
(Proverbs 2:6, 9, 10, 11)

Also when we turn to the Bible God has promised us that; “I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you and watch over you.”
(Psalms 32:8)

He further promised that when we are faced with a decision, if we ask Him what to do, He will tell us. For it is written; “Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, "This is the way; walk in it."
(Isaiah 30:21)

So why try to face life's problems alone, for that can be a losing battle. After all you have the awesome power of GOD waiting to lead you! So why not; “Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and your plans will succeed”.
(Proverbs 16:3)

Then the next time that you ask "What Would Jesus Do," you may just pick up your Bible and read all about it in the gospels. Amen.

E-mail Print PDF

Director Lovelace Lee III tackles 97 years of rich, Black history with the documentary “Saraella Ursery: Pillar of Bethel AME Church, Perris” for the members of Bethel AME Church, located in Perris, California. “We’re most grateful for the opportunity to make this documentary,” Lee says. The documentary about the life of Saraella Ursery and her amazing 64 years of service to Bethel is now in production. Ursery is the last, founding member of the Inland Empire church and is 97- years-old.

“I’ve been in the church my whole life,” Sister Ursery says. She’s been a lifelong AME and was christened at the age of six weeks. In his interviews with Sister Ursery,Lee has already learned so much. “Everything s reveals is either a real pearl of wisdom or funny as all get out,” he added. “I can’t imagine ever being this wise or this funny.”

The documentary will be presented in five chapters: “Arkansas,” “California,” “Church,” “Marriage,” and “Now” to present Sister Ursery’s life. Members and friends of Bethel will be interviewed to share their relationship and earliest memories of Sister Ursery. “It boggles my mind when I put it into perspective,” Lee says.

“Everyone that has ever visited or joined Bethel AME Church, Perris can’t help but know Sister Ursery—because she’s been there for 64 years—for as long as the church itself.”

“We’ve planned and prayed,” Kevin Norwood says. He's the business partner of Lee's who’s producing the documentary with him.

“It’s a blessing to be in production with our first film.”

So far, the production team is rounded by Fouché François Jr., a film & video production major at the prestigious Art Institute of California—Los Angeles and Bethel member Carolyn Chatman. François is a producer; Chatman serves as the documentary’s researcher. The documentary is being made due to the congregation’s generous support.

“Our goal is to have the completed documentary on DVD in time for the Southern California Annual Conference of the AME Church, in September,” Lee says. Follow the progress of the documentary on the "Sara Ursery: Pillar of Bethel AME Church, Perris Documentary" Facebook page and become a fan for an opportunity to win a free copy.
