Music Ministry Announces ‘Sing A New Song’

RIVERSIDE - Bishop Lacy Sykes, Jr., and the Music Ministry of Cross Word Christian Church announce its 2012 Fall Musical. This spectacular event will be held on Sunday, November 4, 2012 at 5:00 p.m. This year’s theme is ‘Sing A New Song’ and will feature several new original music selections, as well as Stellar Award winner and special guest, Moses Tyson, Jr. This is a premier gospel music extravaganza that you will not want to miss. Under the creative leadership of Minister of Music, Gregory J. Thomas, the 150+ member Voices of The Word Choir will render selections that inspire praise and worship of the Most High God. Included in this grand celebration will be the Spiritually Anointed Praise Dancers. Due to the overwhelming number of attendees, we highly recommend arriving early (doors open at 4 p.m.).

Our special guest, Moses Tyson, Jr., is known as the “King of the Hammond B-3” and has acquired fans all over the world with his unique approach to playing this organ! Tyson has been proclaimed the world’s greatest living organist and his newest release, Music 2 Remastered & Sacred Organ Music, helps to back up that claim. The release of that CD earned Tyson a 2012 Stellar Award. “Sing a New Song” will be a powerful and memorable evening. Join us and allow the voices and melodies of heaven to stir your soul.

“Cross Word Christian Church is truly blessed by a wealth of talent within the body that forms the church. . .from Spirit-led directors, singers, musicians and dancers to those who serve diligently behind the scenes to ensure the success of an event of this magnitude”, said Bishop Lacy, “Come out to be blessed and remember to praise God as we sing a new song to the Lord!”

This event is FREE and everyone is welcome. Doors open at 4 p.m. Cross Word Christian Church is located at 14950 Riverside Drive, Riverside, CA 92518 (just east of March Reserve Air Base at the corner of Riverside & Meyer Drive). For directions visit: www.crosswordchurch.org.

“Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?” Romans 8:35 (NKJV)

DEVOTIONAL THOUGHT: Nothing you could ever experience, no matter how terrible or frightening, could ever separate you from the love of God. No tribulation and distress you might ever suffer could be so intense that God’s love for you is not even more fervent. No persecution could be so painful that God’s love cannot bring comfort. Famine might starve you of food, but you will never hunger for the Father’s love. Poverty cannot strip you of God’s compassion, just as even death itself is incapable of robbing you of your heavenly Father’s infinite love.

If you base your view of God’s love on your circumstances, you will become confused. There may be times when you will ask, “How could a loving God allow this to happen to me?” You may begin to question what you find clearly stated in the Word of God. God promised that you would never be separated from His love; He did not say that you would never face hardship, persecution, poverty, or danger. If you doubt that God could love you and still allow you to experience difficult experiences, consider the life of Jesus.

ACTION POINT: If you allow the death of Jesus on the cross to forever settle any questions you might have about God’s love, you will approach difficult circumstances with confidence. Knowing that there will never be anything that could separate you from God’s perfect love, you will watch to see how God expresses His love in each circumstance. Don’t ever judge God’s love based on your circumstances. Instead, evaluate your circumstances from the perspective of God’s love.

Amos Temple CME Church in Riverside, Calif. held its Inaugural Jazz Gospel Celebration, which exceeded Senior Pastor Marrix Seymore’s expectations with a sold out first event. Over 200 attendees enjoyed an evening of great entertainment, delicious dinner and fellowship. A picturesque background of a warm summer sunset offered the perfect backdrop. Guests arrived dressed in their best white attire greeted by host and master of ceremony, Bill Vincent. Hors d’oeuvres and refreshments were served and silent auction tables with beautiful baskets were elegantly displayed. As the evening got underway the melodious sounds of featured jazz band, Tristan Johnson & The Jazz Company Quartet filled the air and was a treat for all to hear. The celebration continued with an anointed performance by gospel soloist Ms. Lois Harris-Tuggle.

The program continued after attendees dined on a mouth-watering soulful dinner with recognition of special honorees. Pastor Seymore welcomed guests and presented special awards. The Sheppard’s Award was given out to Mr. Ardis and Mrs. Christine Franklin, and Mr. Roosevelt and Mrs. Mable Butler. In addition, Mr. Michael Pyles received the Eagle’s Award.

During dessert, the eccentric wild and crazy character known to the church community as “Aunt Flossie” gave an uproaring and side-splitting gospel comedy skit performance. The success of this first time jazz gospel event can be accredited to chair Eugenia Vincent and her hardworking team of committee members. Pastor Seymore and the Amos Temple CME Church family look forward to bringing the event back next year.

Faith Fellowship (Pastor Mark A. Williams) has several great events planned over the next couple of months that we would like the community to know about and was hoping to get the assistance of Black Voice News to help spread the word.

Last year we celebrated three big Milestones and we had events over two consecutive weekends and they were all very successful. We had a golf tournament with over 80 golfers, a free star studded concert that included The Soul Seekers, Mary Mary and others, a day in the park picnic where we fed hundreds of people as well as a community basketball game. We were transparent in letting the community to know and understand who we were as a church. We reached people in the community who thought of church in a negative way. They were able to see that we were just Real People CONNECTING to a Real God. In short, it was a phenomenal experience.
